Funeral services will be 10am on Monday at Rafferty Funeral Home, 2111-1st St A, Moline. Visitation will be 1-3 pm, Sunday at the funeral home. Burial will be at National Cemetery, Rock Island with Military Honors by the American Legion Post 246, Moline. Memorials can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or Salem Lutheran Church.
Robert was born August 29, 1925 in Aledo, IL, the son of John and Anna Erickson Gustafson. He married Lois Herschberger on June 25, 1950 in Nashua, IA. She preceded him in death on May 25, 1985.
Robert was an Army veteran having served in WWII Occupation of Japan, Bismarck, Archipelago, New Guinea, Southern Philippines and Luzon as a military policeman.
Robert began his career with Maurice Holland at Holland Jewelers on February 19, 1958 and retired on February 8, 2008. He was Holland Jewelers longest working staff member and worked for three generations of Holland’s ownership. He was a valued friend, colleague, and a very accomplished watchmaker.
Robert was a member of Salem Lutheran Church, Moline, American Legion Post 246, Moline and was a 50 year member of the Mason Lodge 1014, Moline.
Robert loved to golf and had four holes-in-one recorded. He loved to travel and was an avid boater and kayaker. In his younger years, Robert enjoyed riding his motorcycles.
Survivors include a sister, Ruth Thomson of East Moline; brother, Allen Gustafson of Viola, IL and special friend, Mary Lou Valladares, Moline. He was preceded in death by brothers, Virgil, Raymond and Everett Gustafson.
