Essie Young Scruggs, 98, Clarksville, formerly of Guthrie, Ky. died Saturday, April 3, 2010, at Clarksville Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
The funeral will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday at Cook - Webb Funeral Home with Reverend Paul Eades officiating.
Burial will be in Highland Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m. Sunday at Cook - Webb Funeral Home in Guthrie.
Cook - Webb Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Ms. Scruggs was born February 17, 1912, in Clarksville, Tn, daughter of the late Michael F. and Mary F. Harris Moore. She was a homemaker and a member of the Guthrie Baptist Church. Ms. Scruggs was preceded in death by her parents as well as her first husband Milton Gray Young in 1982, second husband Wallace Scruggs in 1998, as well as one son Milton McGraw Young in 2005.
Ms. Scruggs is survived by two sons Eugene Young and Jack Gray Young, four daughters Betty Dies, Martha Coppage, Lois Y. Burtee and Bertha Summers all of Clarksville. 20 grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Guthrie Baptist Church, Northeast Baptist Church (Clarksville), Excell Baptist Church (Clarksville) the American Cancer Society or the American Heart Association .
