"James P. Isbell enlisted Nov. 11, 1861 at Wilsonville and deserted from camp near Pollard July 14, 1863. He was arrested and returned to camp and was a patient in Ross Hospital, Mobile Oct. 7, 1863. He was wounded in the hand at Kennesaw Mt. June 21, 1864 and paroled at Newton, N. C. April 19, 1865." The application dated 25 April 1898 stated "that disability consists of old age & inability to travel to Columbiana."
