NOTE: The grave marker has his birth year as 1844. The PA Death ceritifcate has it as 1845. I changed to 1844 here, for Find-a-Grave,

Not much is known in our family of William Miller. In fact, he was difficult to find. I did find the marriage record for William Miller and Annie E. Brown. This was her first marriage and took place July 22, 1867 in the Asbury Methodist Church, York, PA. This is interesting because her family had a life-long, generational, association with Christ Lutheran Church in York, PA. They were married, as others were, in the Parsonage. For their marriage, the witnesses were the Pastor's Family and a friend. Based on the date of the birth of their first child, Eva Elizabeth Miller, Annie E. Brown was about two months along when they married.

In the marriage record, his residence is listed as Baltimore, Maryland.

The next Miller finding is that Annie E. Miller in 1870 is back home with her parents (U.S. Census) pregnant with their second child, Harry L. Miller. We have wondered if William was in the Civil War and/or if because the marriage was one of necessity, they were divorced by that time.

William Miller and Mary C. Shindel married in 1871 and are in 1905 and 1909 City Directories of Sunbury, PA at 418 S. Front, where he died. A census record for 1900 states they had been married 29 years; she indicates she had one child who was not living in 1900. During this period he is a cigar maker/mfg.

The death certificate of William Miller shows his parents as Christian Miller and Mary Simmottes, both born in Germany. He died at his home, the same address where his daughter Eva passed on "at the home of her father".

I hope there is a family researcher who can add to the life of William Miller for all of us.
