Mrs. Moore attended school in Norton and taught school for three years before she and Emery Arnol Purdy were married June 7, 1913. They moved to Belleville in 1917. Their home was blessed with two children, a daughter, Neva and a son, Robert. Mr. Purdy preceded her in death in October 1955.
Mrs. Moore was a member of the First Methodist Church of Belleville. Among the many civic organizations which Lena took an active part in were chairman of TB Association for ten years, Bundles for Britain, County Red Cross, National Clothing Chairman for several years, member of War Relief, American Legion Auxiliary, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Order of the Eastern Star, Womens Christians Temperance Union, Womens Society of Christian Service, Needlecraft, and Garden Club. For many years she taught a Sunday School Class. She enjoyed her Red Cross and private swimming classes as well as the help she was able to give the handicapped by water therapy. For many years she was a Cub Scout Den Mother.
Mrs. Purdy and Albert Moore were united in marriage September 5, 1958. Together they continued to manage the Rest Home for the aged at 1513 Q Street.
