Pioneer Woman Lived For 53 Years on the Hometead East of Montesano - 85 Years Old

Mrs. Sarah Arland died at the Home of her daughter, Mrs. Ellen A. Gilkey, in Montesano, Sunday morning at 7 o'clock. The funeral was Tuesday, from the M. E. church, of which she had been a member since she was 15 years of age, and burial was at Wynooche cemetery. REV. Hartley officiated.
Sarah Elizabeth Goodwin was born in ENGLAND at DERBYSHIRE, 1833.
She came to this country with her parents in 1846 and at Dane county, Wisconsin, was married to Richard Arland in January, 1856, and it was there the four oldest children were born. In 1863 the family came to Montesano.
Richard Arland the husband died in Montesano in 1904. Sarah Ann, the oldest child, died in 1879 and another daughter, Elizabeth J. died in 1870. The living children are James A. And Chas. W. Arland, the two oldest boys, and Mrs. Gilkey, of this city; George H. Arland of LOUGHEED, ALBERTA; Marie A. Gilkey, of LACOMB, ALBERTA and Etta B. Parcells, of Portland.
