Nathan M. Calhoon, 85, Eldon, died Thursday at Capital Region Medical Center-Still Campus.

He was born March 26, 1909, in Midland, S.D., the
son of Frank and Mary Fostina Moore Calhoon. He was married Sept. 24, 1936, in California to Olivia Cleo Hite, who survives at the home.

He was a graduate of Midland, S.D. public schools. He was employed with Cierra DePasco Copper Corp., in Peru for seven years. He was a mining shift boss with The Homestake Gold Mine, Lead, S.D., and a furniture dealer in Bellville, Kan., before moving to Eldon in 1951. He owned and operated Calhoon Furnture from 1951 until his retirement in 1973.

He served one term as mayor of Eldon. He served on the Planning & Zoning Board several years and served as chairman of the Eldon Park Board for five years. He was a charter member of the Eldon Gun Club and charter and past member of Miller County Historical Society's board of directors. He was a 50 year member of Lions Club and a charter member
of Volunteers for Youth Development. He was a member of Roof of the World Lodge 1094 AF&AM, Laoroya, Peru. He served as Boy Scouts treasurer and on the scouting board of directors. He held the scout rank of Silver Beaver.

Other survivors include: two daughters, Audra May Gier, Kansas City, and Barbara Jame Stephens, Macon, Ga.; one son, Frank H. Calhoon, Chilhowee; three sisters, Evelyn Carroll, Greenwood, Miss., Eunice Underwood, Silver Springs Md., and Virginia Ruth Gerritsen, San Francisco; and two grandchildren.

Services will be 11 a.m. Monday at First Christian Church, Eldon. The Rev. David Grousnick will officiate. Burial will be in Eldon City Cemetery. Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. today at Phillips Funeral Home, Eldon. Memorials are suggested to First Christian Church Building Fund, Eldon.
