Lois Elaine Lasater was born on May 22, 1940, in Beaver, Oklahoma, to Hubert L. and Ruby Jean (Kinser) Lasater. She attended schools in Ithica, New York, Beirut, Lebanon, and Claremore, Oklahoma, before graduating from Stillwater High School in 1958. On June 20, 1959, Elaine married the love of her life, Wilfred Eugene McMurphy, a marriage that would last 55 wonderful years.
Following high school, Elaine enrolled at Oklahoma State University. From 1959 to 1962, she worked for the Kansas Farm Bureau Insurance Company in the claims department. Elaine and Wilfred spent a short time living in Newell, South Dakota, before returning to Stillwater in 1964, where they have resided for the past 50 years. In 1968, the McMurphys began a successful property management company, and Elaine spent the majority of her life assisting her husband in the ownership and management of their real estate portfolio.
Elaine’s faith was a very important part of her life and she has been a longtime faithful member of the Highland Park United Methodist Church. She was also a member of the Cimarron Valley Quilters’ Guild and the OSU Agronomy Wives Club. In her spare time, Elaine enjoyed selling Avon and Artex Paints. She also loved quilting, bowling, playing pool at the Stillwater Senior Citizen’s Center, but nothing made her happier than when she was surrounded by her family, especially her grandchildren. Elaine was a kind and compassionate woman who always put the needs of others before herself and she will truly be missed by all who knew her.
Elaine was preceded in death by her parents Hubert and Ruby Lasater. She is survived by her husband Dr. Wilfred Eugene McMurphy, of the home, two children, Heather West and husband Bryan, of Stillwater, and Carl McMurphy and wife Sandra, of Oak Point, Texas, a sister Betty Jean Spargo, of Richmond, Virginia, six grandchildren, Tagen McMurphy and wife Kealy, Dillon McMurphy, Samantha West, Taylor West, Jessica Snowder and husband Travis, and Blake Damman and great-grandchild Wesley Snowder.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made in Elaine’s name to the Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation, 825 NE 13th St., OKC, OK, 73104.
Condolences may be sent to the family via an online guestbook at www.pmcfh.com.
