SALT LAKE CITY--H. Frank Hammond, 81, passed away Saturday, March 15, 1997 at home of cancer.
He was born September 14, 1915 in Providence, Utah to Andrew M. and Emma Bauman Hammond. He was raised in Providence, Utah and graduated from South Cache High School and attended Utah State University. He married Carol Ilienquist, June 30, 1937 in the Logan LDS Temple.
He was a High Priest in the Capital Hill 1st Ward. He held various church callings and avoided many.
He served his country with honor as a member of the infantry in Europe during World War II.
He resided in Ogden for most of his adult life and Salt Lake City for the last five years.
He was employed at Badger Brokerage, Fisher-Hess Pontiac Co. and Home Abstract and Tittle Co. He was also Secretary-Treasurer of Big Horn Uranium and Mining Co. He was co-founder of Ogden and Bonneville Title Companies with his son Charles Hammond. Up until two weeks before his death he was employed by Equity Title Co. in Salt Lake.
His greatest joy in life was his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He especially loved to travel with his family. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing with his family, "buddies" and brothers-in-law. Weekend trips to the cabin with his grandchildren in Big Cottonwood Canyon gave him great pleasure.
Frank was voracious reader of history and biographies.
Gramps was a sweet, kind, patient and gentle man, loved by everyone. He was known for his dry, witty sense of humor, which he maintained to the end.
Survived by his loving wife and "sargeant" Carol of 60 years; daughter, Judie Sessions (Clark), Salt Lake; sons, Ric (Claudia), Salt Lake; Charles (Barbara), Kaysville; twelve grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren. Also survived by brother, Spencer, St. George; sister, Donna Redd Black, Blanding. Preceded in death by brothers, Max, Dean and Arthur.
He was surrounded by his loving family during his final days. A special thanks to Allyson Clark and others from Community Nursing services for their caring support.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, March 19, 1997, 11 a.m. at Lindquist Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd. Friends may call at the mortuary Tuesday, 6-8 p.m. and Wednesday 10-10:45 a.m. Interment will be at Kaysville City Cemetery.
