Funeral services for Charles Albert Pennington,55, who died of an accidental gunshot wound on Christmas Eve, were held at 3 p.m. Sunday in the First Baptist Church with the Rev. Joseph Holliday and the Rev. Norman Williams officiating. Burial was in Westview Cemetery.
Sheriff Buford Lingold said the accident occurred between 6 and 6:30 p.m. and resulted when Mr. Pennington attempted to cross a fence with a shotgun he planned to use in shooting muskrats at a pond.
The wound was to the back of Mr. Pennington's head, and all evidence presented to a coroner's jury Tuesday resulted in a ruling that the shot had, unquestionably, been accidentally fired.
Me. Pennington had extensive interest having been in building and trucking business here for some years. Pendale, a subdivision was one of his building projects.
