John E Mayock, 80, a longtime resident of Scranton, died early Wednesday morning at Moses Taylor Hospital after a lengthy illness. He and his wife, the former Eleanor Mehne, celebrated their 38th wedding anniversary 7 Jan. Born in Johnstown, son of the late Joseph and Florence Worthington Mayock, he was a graduate of Scranton Central High School and an Army veteran of World War II. He was a member of Immaculate Conception Church, Scranton, former chairman and a member of the Marion Senior Center, Marion, Iowa, and a member of the drum and bugle corps at St John the Evangelist Church, Scranton. He was also a member of the American Legion Maj Edward J Poch Post 948 and the Disabled American Veterans WC Malia Chapter 1. Before retiring, he was employed for 35 years by Wallace Murray Corp, Scranton. Avid sportsman who enjoyed all sports, especially fishing, football and boxing. Also survived by stepson, Stephen Pendrak of Moscow; three stepdaughters, Suzanne Severe of Scranton, Saundra Ehman of Rochester NY, and Sally Giersberg of Columbia, MO; brother, Richard, Bedminister NJ; sister Joan Mast of Spring Brook; 17 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and nieces, nephews and cousins. Preceded in death by three sisters, Virginia Moriarity, Mary Timoney and Ann Merkel.
