Services for Val Smith, 54, were held in the Baptist Church officiated by Rev. M.F. Ewton of Frederick, Oklahoma, assisted by Rev. Raymond Dykes of Fort Worth, and Rev. R.R. Willingham of Palo Pinto.
Mr. Smith had been employed in the northwest Texas oil fields but retired from that line of work in 1924. He was always cheerful and friendly. Few men were better known in Palo Pinto than Val Smith, who went about the city every day on duties in connection with his former grocery business or with his home. He made friends quickly and was always a friend to those in need. He was a Christian gentleman with high standards.
Survived by his wife; two daughters - Miss Lois Smith, Miss Gladys Smith; seven brothers and sisters - John Smith, Homer Smith, Charlie Smith, Scudder Smith, Miss Betty Smith, Emma Mitchem, Mrs. E.O. Segars.
