I took the children , there were eight of them with one only a small baby and a bundle of clothes and took off running down the deer paths, leading the chilren by the hand and holding the baby. The fire caught up to us and stared the forest along the path burning. Trees crashed down around us as we ran.
The fire all around us, even the clothes on our backs burned. Some how my son Edward got let from the long line of chilren following me and burned in the woods.
The next day my daugher Senia died from the smoke she had inhaled furing our flight. I remember tha fateful Saturday. I had asked her to clean house, and she said she wouldn't ever have to clean this house again . She didn't have to.
