John M. Anderson was born at Spring, Hill, Helt township, Vermillion county, Indiana. July 6, 1871, aged 34 years. For the past eight years he has lived in Clinton. Twenty-four years of his life be lived on a farm south of J. C. Jackson's. His school days were the greater part spent at Spring Hill. He had many friends among the school mates, several of whom have gone on before. He made this remark after one of his most intimate school mates had passed away, "God hides his flowers in the bosom of the earth, till summer shines again." And now another flower has been hidden in the bosom of the earth, and when I see the mounds, in the same row, in the "quiet little city on the hill," at Salem I think "How many, hopes lie buried there. But our loss is their infinite gain, and from then bodily chain they are released.

With songs let us follow their flight, And mount with their spirits above, Outflying the tempest and wind, Their rest they sooner obtained, And left their companions behind, On a see of distress, still tossed.

When John was asked by the minister what he thought, could he not get well, he replied "i am ready and willing to go." The voyage of life's at an end, The mortal affliction is past; The age that in Heaven he'll spend Forever and ever, shall last. So kind and affectionate he was to his dear old mother pen cannot express. Let us now break the alabaster box of love and sympathy to the dear old mother that's left; e'er she be called above. How many burdened hearth are here, That long for present help and cheer, The kindly words you mean to say, When they are dead and gone, speak now, While hearts can thrill and ears can hear, Let loving deeds and words bring cheer A Friend.
