Milam County Indigent Families List***(February 12, 1864)On November 24, 1863, the Texas Legislature passed a Joint Resolution stating that the government pledged "support and maintenance of [the soldiers'] families during their absence from home." In accordance with this Resolution, an "Act to Support the Families and Dependents of Texas Soldiers" passed on December 15, 1863. The names are arranged in alphabetical order by surname. The information given is the name of the soldier, the number of dependents, the type of service, whether the soldier had died or was disabled, and the Beat in which the soldier or his family resided.
