GREENFIELD
Charles F. Allen, 68, died at his home on School street Monday evening after several weeks illness with pneumonia. Mr. Allen was a well known citizen. He was a native of this town, the son of John Allen who was a leading farmer in the north part of town many years ago. He was a cutter for some time in Cutler, Lyons & Field's shoe shop, but for a number of years had followed the trade of brick mason. The funeral was held at the house Thursday afternoon Rev. Mr. Buckingham of Bernardston officiating. The bearers were nephews of the deceased. He leaves besides his wife, two brothers, Oscar C. Allen of Cambridge, and Frank J. Allen of this town, and six sisters, Mrs. Isaac Barton, Mrs. Merrick P. Slate, Mrs. C. Emerson Ballou and Miss Sarah Allen of this town, Mrs. A. S. Atherton and Mrs. E. C. Burrows of Bernardston. Mr. Allen was of a retiring nature, but did many acts of kindness in an unassuming way.
