In 1908 they moved to Brook where he has since resided.
He served as county commissioner of Newton county for several years and eight years as township assessor. He was a man whose opinion was often sought on matters of importance, and whose opinion was always carefully weighed before being given.

He was a member of the town board which membership he had held for several years.

Since last autumn he has been failing in health, and was so appreciative of the kindnesses shown him and his wife during their illness.
They quietly celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary Feb. 8th, 1943, he being too ill to have guests.
He has lived an active, useful and prosperous life, and will be greatly missed by all.
He leaves to mourn his going his wife, one son, one daughter, three granddaughters, one grandson and two great grandsons. Also three brothers, William, of North Vernon, Wash.; Frank, of Brook; and Clay, of Rensselaer; one sister, Mrs. Winnie Arnold, of Portland, Oregon, several nieces and nephews and a host of friends.
Two brothers and one sister, Mrs. Mary Stath, preceded him in death.
