Mr. Mathew Wilfred "Red" McKenzie, age 64, of Vidalia, died Oct. 27, at his home following a brief illness. Born in Jefferson County, the son of Matthew Lindsey McKenzie and Bertha Smith McKenzie, he had resided in Vidalia for the past 37 years, and was the founder of McKenzie and Sons Inc. He was a veteran of World War II, and a member of Tabernacle Baptist Church.
Surviving are his wife, Tossie Williams McKenzie; and four sons, Max McKenzie, Montgomery, Ala., Glen and Theron McKenzie, of Vidalia, and Rev. Ronnie McKenzie, Jacksonville, Fla. He is also survived by two brothers, Holmes McKenzie and Cliff McKenzie, of Vidalia; 13 grandchildren; one great grandchild; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services for Mr. McKenzie were held at Murchison Funeral Home Chapel, Wednesday morning at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Fred Swann officiating, assisted by Rev. Ronnie McKenzie. Interment was at Lakeview Memorial Gardens.
Active pallbearers were: Jimmy McBride, Travis McBride, Charles Clements, Wyman Braddy, Wayne Douberly and Ed Smith.
