Eleanor was born into a large loving family. Her parents, Alvin and Bertha Dane Washburn raised 16 children on the Washburn family farm in Macomb, NY.
Eleanor was a member of the 1950 graduating class at Gouvereneur High School and attended Jefferson Community college where she completed her education to become a certified dental technician.
She worked as a dental assistant in Gouverneur and Watertown.
Eleanor was twice married. Her first husband, Barry Wicks, who she married in 1955 died in 1961. She then married John Solar in 1968. He died in 2008.
Eleanor was survived by a daughter and her husband, a son-in-law, four stepdaughters, three brothers, nine sisters, and numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. A daughter, two brothers and a sister died before her.
