Stephen and Anna (Cogswell) Wilson came to Susquehanna County, Pennsylvania from New York in 1799, when Mason was nine months old. Stephen was an assessor of Bridgewater township, and was one of the commissioners of Susquehanna County in 1815. "They left Bridgewater township in 1819 and settled at Wysox, Bradford Co., and in 1823 removed thence to West Almond, Allegany Co., New York, where they remained for seven years, when they settled at Belfast, on the Genesee, where they died." Stephen had a brother named Samuel, as did Anna, his wife.

Note: Stephen and Anna had two young boys, David Goff Wilson born 28 Mar 1796, and Mason Saxon Wilson born 28 Jun 1798, both born in in Burlington, Otsego, New York, when they arrived in Susquehanna County.

The last Will and Testament of Stephan Wilson of the town of Belfast, Allegany County and State of New York.
I, Stephan Wilson, of the town of Belfast in the County of Allegany and State of New York, being desirous to discharge the duty which every man owes to his family by making such provisions for the distribution of my property as shall be just and equitable do make, publish and declare this my last will and testament as follows:
First. I give and bequeath unto my beloved wife Anna the use, benefits and profits of all my personal property and of the equal undivided half of the farm on which my son Stephan and I now live consisting of lot 23 and fifty acres on the North side of lot 25 first range in the town of Belfast, Allegany County and State of New York after the payment of my just debts and funeral expenses, to be under the control of my executor herein after named and in case the profits of the said real and personal estate should at any time be insufficient for the comfort and support of my said wife with the personal property, I hereby authorize and empower my executors hereafter named to sell or mortgage so much of the real estate aforesaid as should be necessary to raise sufficient funds for her maintenance which said bequests an expense made in lieu of her dower. Second. I will and direct that after the decease of my said wife Anna that my executors herein after named sell at public or private sale the equal undivided half of the above mentioned farm and the avails of the same together with what may remain of my personal estate to divide into nine equal parts which I sincerely will and bequeath unto my nine children and to their representatives to each one or to their representatives, the one ninth part, viz: one share each to my five sons David G. Wilson, Mason S. Wilson, Samuel C. Wilson, Stephan Wilson, and Robert S. Wilson, and one share each to my four daughters Almeda Bard (now deceased), Anna wife of Dudley B. Smith, Polly wife of Thomas M. Dean, and Orpha, wife of John Jennings. Third. The share of my son David G. Wilson (deceased) I will and direct the same to be paid to his four children as follows: fifty dollars to Mason C. Wilson and the remainder to be divided equally between the four Anna, Clark S. and Mary Wilson and Mason C. Wilson so that Mason C's share may be fifty dollars more than either of the other three. Fourth. The share of my deceased daughter Almeda I will and bequeath to her two children Wilson Bard and Ellen Wartrous to be divided equally between them. Fifth. The share of my son Samuel C. I will and bequeath to my son Stephan Wilson first for the care and benefit of the family of the said Samuel C. Wilson to be paid over in the ___ or land according to the direction of the wife of my said Samuel C. Wilson. Fifth (Sixth) I give and bequeath to my son Stephan the equal undivided two twelfth part of the above mentioned farm, making him, with the one third heretofore deeded to him. The equal undivided half of the above mentioned farm, which I acknowledge to be jointly and lawfully his at my decease. I also hereby authorize and impower my son Stephan to make such improvements either in building or repairing, or improving as he may think proper on said farm, and said improvements not to be named in the appraisal and sale at the decease of my said wife, but to be considered his or his representatives all ___ shares or legacies. I hereby authorize and impower my executors herein after named to arrange and settle any time within three years of the decease of myself and my said wife. Seventh. It is my express will that the bequests herein made and the trust herein created shall be executed and carried out for the benefit of my several children and their families. Eighth. I trust, nominate and appoint my sons Samuel C. Wilson and Stephan Wilson Executors of this my last will and testament, hereby giving them full power and authority to sell and convey the real estate and personal property with the limitations herein contained for the purpose of carrying with full specific effect the several provisions of this my last will and testament. Hereby revoking all other former wills by me at any time made.
In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this tenth day of May in the year of our Lord one Thousand eight hundred and forty seven.
