Suggested edit: The bio mentions William as having sons Miles, Lloyd, and Riley. However, based on William's will, these three were sons of his son Charles by Charles' first wife. Charles also had a son Isaac by a second wife. The reason all four are mentioned in William's will is because Charles died just a few years before William.

william Ramey of elkhorn city was born in Fayette county Virginia,(which became clark co. ky) the original family came from Westmoreland.
he was a surveyor of land and acquired a lot of land in russell county va and across the river in Pike co. ky. he met anna samlin in north carolina on a surveyors trip and married her and moved to floyd county, when pike became a county in 1820 from floyd, he was in Pike county. many counties in va changed names, some ended up in ky, ky was only formed in the late 1700's.
