Lawrence R. Tully (“LR”)
1922 - 2017
Lawrence Richard Tully (“LR”), a longtime resident of the Alden community near Apache, Oklahoma, died on Tuesday, August 22, at Cedar Ridge Retirement Community, Tulsa, Oklahoma.
LR was born near Apache on December 14th, 1922, to Stephen Chauncey and Eugenia (Timmer) Tully.
After graduation from high school, LR entered the US Army Air Corps. He was an air traffic controller at Harlingen, TX Pilot Cadet Training Facility. In 1947, after serving 4 years, he returned to the Alden community, married Dawn Strickland and raised their family.
LR farmed and ranched south of Carnegie, in the foothills of the Wichita Mountains, which he dearly loved. He was a very independent, self-reliant and hard working individual. His wonderful sense of humor was well appreciated by all.
One of the highlights of his life was living in Angel Fire, NM, where he enjoyed his retirement and spending time with his family and friends.
They returned to Oklahoma in 1992 and settled in the Lake Lawtonka area. Lawrence and Dawn moved to Tulsa in 2002 where they remained, surrounded by their children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Lawrence was well respected, fun loving and a wonderful husband. He was also a great father, father-in-law, grandfather, great-grandfather and was always a friend.
Lawrence is survived by children Scott, Randy and Sheri; daughters-in-law Terry M. Tully and Terri B. Tully; 8 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his wife, Dawn, their son Stephen and great-granddaughter Brianna Dawn.
Funeral services will be held Monday, August 28, at 1:00 pm, at Crews Funeral Home Chapel, Apache, with Deacon Tom Biles officiating. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery under the direction of Crews Funeral Home.
There will be a visitation from 12:00 P.M. until service time for friends and family.
