Varner Eugene Tacy, 89, of Lebanon, died, Tuesday, Aug. 23, 2005 at his home.

Varner was born October 4, 1915 in Stettler, Alberta, Canada the son of John and Ida (Shideler) Tacy. He lived in Stettler until 1926, when at the age of 11 his father passed away. He then moved to the United States with his mother. He was naturalized in 1941.

He married Violet Parrish on May 4, 1935 in Walla Walla, Washington. Varner served in the Navy during WWII, and was discharged in 1945. The couple moved to Lebanon in 1947. He worked at the Bauman Mill as a lumber carrier driver, retiring in 1980. Violet preceded him in death on December 26, 2003, after 68 years of marriage.

He was a past commander of the American Legion Post #51 in Lebanon and had belonged to the Odd Fellows, the Elks, and the Good Sam Club. Varner enjoyed boating, camping, dancing, bowling, hunting, and playing golf. He also enjoyed getting together with family and friends.

Varner is survived by 3 sons: Bill Tacy of Lebanon, David Tacy of Bend, and Patrick Tacy of Salem; 2 daughters: Mary Youmans and Linda Milligan both of Lebanon; 18 grandchildren, 44 great-grandchildren, 4 great-great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife: Violet Tacy; 1 brother, and numerous sisters.

Viewing will be on Friday August 26 from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Huston-Jost Funeral Home. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, August 27 at the Lebanon IOOF Cemetery. Military honors will be by the American Legion Posts #51 and #10.
