Mayflower Descendant - Samuel was a 6th generation Mayflower Descendant in the line of John and Priscilla Alden. He was born in Norton, Mass., which is a tiny town west of Bridgewater. He was the son of Samuel Wilde [1732-1794] and Mercy (Pratt) Wilde [1731-1794]. He went to England with his father and mother in 1769 to claim property. On June 1st, 1781, he married an English woman, Alice (Thornely Harrop) Wild (1762-1833), in Audenshaw, Lanc., England. At the time he was 21 years of age. Their son Peter Wild [1801-1875], was a 7th generation Mayflower Descendant. He died in Hyde, England (Greater Manchester Area) at the age of 41. [Note: He dropped the E from the end of his last name] May he rest in peace...

THE HUNTER: Cheek that is tanned to the wind of the north, body that jests at the bite of the cold, limbs that are eager and strong to go forth, into the wilds and the ways of the bold; red blood that pulses and throbs in the veins, ears that love silences better than noise; strength of the forest and health of the plains; these the rewards that the hunter enjoys.
Forests were ever the cradles of men; manhood is born of a kinship with trees. Whence shall come brave hearts and stout muscles, when, woods have made way for our cities of ease? Oh, do you wonder that stalwarts return yearly to hark to the whispering oaks? 'Tis for the brave days of old that they yearn: these are the splendors the hunter invokes. ~Unknown~
