Mrs. Wm. B. Tripp, one of the oldest residents of Bangor village, died at her home on the morning of June 19, 1909, at the age of 79 years, seven months and 19 days. Funeral services were conducted from the home on the 21st by Dr. T.W. Bellingham, the burial being in Arlington Hill beside her husband who died in February 1906.
Lucy E. Cross was born in Elba, N.Y., Nov. 30, 1829, and when but four years of age she came to Michigan with her parents, who settled in Jackson county. She was one of a family of 11 children, of whom but two survive, they being Mrs. Lucinda Ewing of Bangor, and Mrs. H. C. Roberts of Jackson.
She was united in marriage to Wm. B. Tripp in 1845, and in the early '50 [sic] they moved to Bangor, where both lived until the time of their death.
Mrs. Tripp was a talented lady and when the family came to Bangor she engaged in teaching school, being one of the first teachers ever employed in this district. Many old residents of this place were pupils of hers and her death will recall the days of the old red schoolhouse on the hill.
Mrs. Tripp was the mother of eight children, five of whom have passed away, the remaining ones being Mr. [sic] E. M. Tory, [sic] who has cared for her mother for the past few years, B. A. [sic] Tripp of Allegan, and H. L. Tripp of Bangor. Besides this she leaves nine grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
[Daughter of William O. Cross (1800-1856)& Eliza Bigelow (abt 1799-1834).]
