Harriet Roberts Brown Darby was the daughter of Benjamin Roberts, one of the earliest settlers of Homer, Cortland Co, NY. Sisters (who predexeased her), per her Father Benjamin Roberts will, were Lydia Rindge, born 1806, married to Septimus Rindge in 1826; Clarinda, born 1808, married to Samuel Sumner; Ann, born 1810, married to Lucius Bennett in 1832-1835, after Lucius death 1835, married to Hermon Ford, & Polly Root,. Harriet married Horace H. Brown about 1838 & they had Charles Allen Brown, 1842 - April 11, 1872. He died in Cayhill, Cayuga Co, NY, Lewis Brown & dau Sarah Brown. After Horace Brown's death, she became the 3rd wife of Thomas Darby (1802-1883) in 1867. (Thomas Darby was the cousin of both Lucius Bennett & Septimus Rindge, through their Grow sister Mothers, her sisters' husbands & Thomas Darby's 1st wife, Abigail Sumner who died in 1832, was the sister of Harriets brother-in-law, Samuel Sumner) Harriet had younger brothers, Ira, who died about 1849, Lewis , 1828-1850, & Albert Roberts, and the sisters who survived her were Sarah Lightfoot, Sophia Loomis, & Eliza Hobart, also all mentioned as his children in her Fathers will.

—The funeral services of Mrs. Harriet Darby, widow of Mr, Thomas Darby, formerly of this place, will be held in her late home in Homer, to-morrow, Thursday, at 2 o'clock, p. M.

The funeral of Mrs. Harriet Darby took place at her late residence on South Main st. yesterday afternoon at S o'clock. Interment was made at Glenwood cemetery.

The Republican May 17, 1894

Mrs. Thomas Darby died at her home on South Main street Monday night at the age of 77 years. Mrs. Darby was born in this village and lived in Cortland until the death of her husband about ten years ago. Since then she has resided in this village. A daughter,
Mrs. Sarah Bradley of Belmont, N.Y.,and three sisters survive her, viz: Mrs. Amory W.Hobort, Mrs. Sophia Loomis of this village and Mrs. Sarah Lightfoot of Chicago. (Sisters Lydia Rindge, Clarinda Sumner, Ann Bennett Ford & Polly Root, proceeded her in death, as did brothers Ira, Albert, & Lewis.)

The funeral will be hold from her late home this (Thursday) afternoon at 2 o'clock. Rev. George H. Brighamwill officiate and burial will be made in Glenwood cemetery. Mrs. Darby was a woman of many virtues of heart and mind and was muoh beloved by those who knew her.
