Lester K. Schoon, age 102, of Lowell, IN formerly of Lakes of the Four Seasons and Gary, passed away August 22 at the Jesse Brown VA Medical Center in Chicago. He was graduated from Emerson High School in 1930 and Purdue University School of Engineering in 1938. He served in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers during World War II in the Pacific theater attaining the rank of Major. Lester retired from U.S. Steel Gary Works in 1971 after more than 35 years of service. He was a member of Central Baptist Church in Hobart and Gary Lodge No. 677, F.&A.M. He was preceded in death by his wife of almost 60 years, Vivian (nee Bain) in 1999 and his ten brothers. He is survived by his sons- David of Lowell, Kenneth (Peg) of Munster, and Ronald (Susan) of Valparaiso; grandsons- John (Koeeoaddi) of Portage, Steve (Valeri) of Apple Grove, West Virginia, Jacob (Heather) of Griffith and Robert (Fiancee Cara) of Bloomington; three great-grandchildren.
