Using an extension cord to furnish light in repairing a flat tire, Grover Layton, Finkbine Lumber Company employee, of D'Lo, was electrocuted Friday night, 220 volts passing through his body. Death was instantaneous.
The accident happened at D'Lo just after the mill had closed down for the day and Layton, accompanied with two or three other employees, went to his car which was parked near the planer. Finding one of the tires flat, he began to remove it to repair the puncture. Darkness came on them and they got an extension cord and a light bulb. Layton being drenched by the heavy rain which was falling, took hold of the cord where the insulation was worn, the shock killing him instantly.
Burial took place at Poplar Springs Saturday. He is survived by a wife and widowed mother, besides a host of relatives and friends.
