From "HISTORY OF CRAWFORD COUNTY ILLINOIS",1980, p 207:

"The Mickey family of Crawford County were descendents of James and Mary (Hair) Mickey who were early settlers of the Russellville, Illinois area. James Mickey was born about 1794 in Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania and first entered land in Lawrence County, Illinois in 1831. He had moved from Pennsylvania to Adams County, Ohio, then came to Illinois 1831. James died near Russellville on May 15, 1841 and his widow died there August 29, 1861. Their children were; Benjamin; Daniel; Henry who married Mary Johnson; John; Joseph who married Nancy Catterton and secondly, Alcinda Barton Warner; Ellis; Rebecca who married Touissaint Dubois Baird; Sarah who married William Lagow and James who married Nancy Ellen Dougherty. Most of James and Mary Mickey's children remained in Lawrence County. Ellis went to the west and Daniel and John both settled in Montgomery Township of Crawford County."

Neither Daniel Mickey or his wife Lavina Elizabeth (Highsmith) Mickey are buried in Ford Cemetery. They were buried in a family farm burying ground in Montgomery Township, Crawford County, IL. I was there 50 years ago, but the stones, if there ever were any, were gone (farmers liked to use them as weights on their harrows). I don't know where May, 1812 comes from, but my calculation says he was born abt. 1811. Lavina Highsmith was born Mar. 10, 1819 (calculated from her age at death) in Montgomery Township. She died July 4, 1900 in Montgomery Township. Her death notice was published in the “Flat Rock (IL) News” column of the Robinson Constitution, Robinson, IL, Wednesday, July 4, 1900:

Mrs. Vina Mickey died Thursday evening at the home of her son J. H. Mickey, a few miles east of here, aged 81 years, 3 months & 17 days. She was a sister of Uncle Ewing Highsmith who passed away a few months since. Mrs. M. was born in Crawford County and resided here all her life; was the mother of eighteen children, of which only five are now living. She was for many years a devoted member of the Baptist church. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. Conrad of the U. B. church.

I am currently completing a 1700+ page manuscript Scots-Irish Mickeys in America. Chris H. Bailey (3gg son of Daniel & Lavina)
