Shirley June Philson
June 28, 1927 — May 12, 2009
Sonora resident Shirley June Philson died May 12 at a Hughson care home. She was 81.
Mrs. Philson was born in Giltner, Neb., one of 13 children of Mary and William Clayton Ellison. She lived in Sonora for 33 years. She lived in England for some time while raising her children.
She retired from the state Employment Development Department. Her hobbies included crossword puzzles, gardening, dominoes, bridge and reading. Mrs. Philson also loved to travel. She traveled all over the world and went on many cruises.
According to her family, family was everything to her and she will be remembered for her laugh and smile. Her niece will officiate at her service.
Mrs. Philson is survived by her daughter, Barbara Walker, of Santa Maria, Santa Barbara County; her son, Phillip Philson, of Yucaipa, San Bernardino County; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; her brother, Roger Ellison, of Westminster, Colo.; and sisters, Jeanne Coffey, of Denver, Colo., Harriet Gerstenberger, of Denver, Maggie Froetschner, of Florence, Ariz., and Fran Tuttle, of Albuquerque, N.M.
A donation in her name may be made to Alexander Cohen Hospice House in Hughson.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Terzich and Wilson Funeral Home.
Terzich and Wilson Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
