Howard L. "Jerry" Van Duyne was a son of the late Howard M. and Ion Pollard Van Duyne. He grew up in Montclair and Stirling and had lived in Fairmount and Far Hills before moving to Pottersville in 1973.

He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, having served as a medic with the 351st Infantry Medical Detachment.

Mr. Van Duyne was a construction worker employed by Alward Construction Company in Bernardsville for many years, retiring in 1984.He was previously employed as a farmer on several estates in the Somerset Hills area.

He was a member of the Pottersville Reformed Church and the Construction Laborers Union No. 472 of Newark.

Jerry loved gardening and was well known for selling corn and other produce from his roadside stand and at his home.

He died at the age of 90 at his Pottersville home.

He was predeceased by his first wife, Evelyn Wortman Van Duyne, who died October 1, 1978, and by his second wife, Barbara Prostak Van Duyne, who died October 7, 2010; by a grandson, Jason Eisenberg; and by two brothers, Elwood and Roy Van Duyne.

Mr. Van Duyne is survived by a son, three daughters, a sister, 11 grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
