Her first husband was James Craig, with whom she had Ellen "Nellie" in 1859, William T in 1861, and James E in 1863. James died in the 1860s, probably in Dornoch, Ontario.
Kate emigrated to California with her children in the 1870s. Her brothers James, John, and Ed were already established in Berkeley; I have a clipping in which she's referred to the Mrs Craig, the sister of the Brennan brothers.
After a few years she and the children moved to Reno, NV, where she ran a restaurant.
She married her second husband, John E. Shannon, about 1880, and they had a son John in 1882. They also adopted Nellie's youngest son Lester Lievre after Nellie's death in 1895.
By 1910 John and Kate had moved to San Luis Obispo, CA. John died there in 1924 while swimming.
Kate moved to Oakland next door to Lester a year before her death.
