Bender, Philip E. “Chip” 68 of Irvine, CA formerly of Gallitzin died August 9, 2014 at St. Joseph Hospital, Orange, CA. Born January 8, 1946 in Gallitzin the son of the late Paul and Catherine (Burkhart) Bender. Preceded in death by two infant sons, Paul and Jerome.

Survived by his wife the former Molly J. Finnegan and these children: Jamieson Bender and wife Susan Hwang of Beverly Hills, MI; Rhett Bender of Irvine, CA; Regina (Reggie) Bender of Irvine, CA; Brother of: Elaine Davis – Millersville; Paul (Linda Brenneman) – Mount Joy; Brian (Debra Elmore) – Thompsons Station, TN.
A 1963 graduate of Gallitzin High School. Chip played football and was a former athletic director at Villanova University. He worked as a sales and marketing executive for multiple building material companies and also taught a marketing course at Cal State Fullerton. He liked crossword puzzles, reading, parades, home remodeling (and new tools), Motown music, March Madness, golf, bowling, Subway sandwiches, attending his children’s athletic and musical performances, and he liked to dance and sing a little bit.

He coached several youth sports teams, and had been involved in a number of school development projects and booster clubs. A member of St. Thomas More Catholic Church, Irvine and a former member of St. Demetrius Catholic Church, Gallitzin where Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10am Monday the Rev. Albert Ledoux celebrant. Committal St. Patrick Cemetery. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 pm Sunday at Gibbons Funeral Home, 301 Church Street, Gallitzin, Pa 16641 where a vigil service will be held Sunday.
