Niels was a carpenter who at the age of 72 built his own house from scratch.

Nels Andersen, son of Soren and Cecil Marie Andersen was born November 3, 1883 in Shelby County, Iowa and passed away June 25, 1966 at the age of 82 years, 7 months and 22 days, in the Iowa Lutheran Hospital, Des Moines, Iowa.

He was baptized as an infant in the Danish Lutheran Church. He grew to manhood in Shelby and Cass County, coming to Clarke County in 1916. He farmed in Clarke County first near Truro, then near Osceola, until 1945 when he moved to Osceola and worked as a carpenter for Fred Kelley.

On February 22, 1917 he was united in marriage to Susie Shepard and to this union one daughter was born, Mrs. Edryn Schaffer.

He leaves to mourn his passing his daughter, Edryn of Des Moines, with whom he has made his home for the past 4 years. Three grandchildren, Carolyn Sapp of Des Moines, Richard Schaffer Y.N. 3rd class of the U.S. Navy, and Mary Schaffer at home and one great grandchild, Douglas Sapp.

He also leaves one brother, Martin Andersen of Atlantic, IA; one sister, Julia McCain of Atlantic, IA, several nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends.

Those preceeding him in death were his wife Susie and his parents and one sister and his six brothers and his son-in-law Charley Schaffer.

Services were conducted from the Webster Funeral Home with George M. Mason officiating. Burial was in Maple Hill Cemetery. (rest missing)

A long-time Clarke county resident, Nels C. Andersen, 82, died Saturday, June 25, in Iowa Lutheran Hospital in Des Moines. Services will be Tuesday, June 28, at 1:30 p.m. from the Webster Funeral Home in Osceola. Pastor George Mason of Des Moines will officiate.

Nels C. Andersen was born November 3, 1883 in Shelby County, Iowa, son of Soren Andersen and Cecil Marie Andersen. He was educated in Shelby County schools. On February 23, 1919, he was married to Susie Shepherd in Omaha, Nebraska. One childe was born to this union.

He worked at his occupation of farmer and carpenter in Clarke county since 1919, moved to Osceola in 1945 and to Des Moines in 1962. He was a member of the Lutheran Church.

He was preceeded in death by his father, mother, wife, one sister and six brothers.

Survivors include one daughter, Mrs. Edryn Schaffer of Des Moines, a grandson, Richard Schaffer with the US Navy at Charleston, SC; two granddaughters, Mrs. Carolyn Sapp of Des Moines; and Mary Schaffer of Des Moines; a great grandson, Douglas Sapp; one brother, Martin of Atlantic and one sister Julia McCain of Atlantic.

Burial will be in Maple Hill Cemetery in Osceola.
