Mary D. Sims, 100, of Newbern died Feb. 21, 2006, at Obion County Nursing Home. Services will be 1 p.m. Friday at Johnson Funeral Home in Newbern, with burial following there in Fairview Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home from 11 a.m. until the hour of services Friday. The Rev. Perry Grills will officiate and pallbearers will be J.C. Grills, Larry Joe Maupin, Tom Davis, Glen Davis, Irvin "Rad" Crenshaw and Richard Flatt. She was born Nov. 7, 1905, in Dyer, daughter of the late Ernest Fred and Myrtle (Jacobs) Beasley. She was the widow of Charles Elvis Sims and was the oldest member of Fairview Baptist Church in Newbern. She was a homemaker. Survivors include three daughters, Norma Jean Austin of Eads, Mary Fay Stewart of Skokie, Ill., and Evelyn Albright of Obion; her son, Charles Sims of Obion; her sister, Ruth Simmons of Elmwood Park, Ill.; two brothers, Gene Beasley of Newbern and James Beasley of Elmwood Park; 10 grandchildren, Robin Haney, Belinda Adkins, Keith Sims, Alan Sims, Gary Sims, Michael Stewart, James Albright, Mary Hayes, Sheri Lewis and Donna Jean Switzer; and 22 great-grandchildren and nine great-great-grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by three sons, Everett Lee "Bo" Sims, George Sims and Harold "Cotton" Sims; her sister, Ollie B. Harper; and four grandchildren, Lawanda Vazquez, Tracy Sims, Charles Austin and Timothy Austin.
