"FORMER COUNTY TREASURER DIED
"Stroke Proved Fatal to Well Known Resident Here Tuesday Night.
"Funeral Rites Friday Afternoon

"Gatch L. Baker, life long resident in Dearborn County and well known Democratic political figure died at 10:30 o'clock Tuesday night shortly after he suffered a stroke at his home 306 Fifth Street. He had been in ill health for some time and recently returned home from Indianapolis City Hospital, on which staff his son, Dr. Leslie Baker serves. His health seemed much improved and he had spent practically all day down town Tuesday, spending the time with friends. Funeral services have been arranged for 2 p.m. Friday from Stier and Williams Funeral Home. Rev. W.G. Parker, pastor of the Methodist Church will officiate and burial will be in Riverview Cemetery.

"Mr. Baker was born seventy-one years ago in Wilmington, Hogan Township. He was the son of the late Thomas and Celesta Canfield Baker. He received his education in the Hogan township schools. He was a successful salesman for several years for the Aurora Glove Company and later was associated with the Dearborn Wholesaling Co., retiring from that interest in 1945. Active throughout his lifetime in Democratic politics he served his party well in organization and promotion work. In 1918 he was elected Dearborn County Treasurer and served until 1921 in that office. He married Mayme Mayer and they recently celebrated their 49th wedding anniversary. Mr. Baker took an active interest in community affairs and was ever ready to promote any project for community betterment. He had a wide circle of friends.

"Beside his widow he is survived by three sons, Leroy Baker, Bloomington, Indiana, Dr. Leslie Baker, Indianapolis and Lester G. Baker, Dearborn County Prosecutor, three daughters, Mrs. Ralston Smith (Freida Baker) of Richmond, Ky., Mrs. Lois Huffstetter, Aurora and Mrs. Dale McLeaster (Bernice Baker) of Lawrenceburg, also nine grandchildren and one great grandchild."

"A large number of out of town relatives were here last week to attend the funeral of Mr. Gatch L. Baker, among them many Lawrenceburg friends and business acquaintances.
