George D. Bragg, 93, of Wellington, died Sunday morning, August 10, 2014, at University Hospitals Elyria Medical Center. He was born March 16, 1921 in Clarksburg West Virginia, to the late William Russell and Venetia Idessa (nee Smith) Bragg.

George was a 1938 graduate of Victory High School. He went on to serve in the United States Army Air Corps during World War II. After his service, he continued his education and earned his Bachelors of Science from Salem College, West Virginia, in 1953.

George relocated to the Oberlin area in 1953 for a brief time then moved to Pittsfield and ultimately to Wellington Township. He took a job with the Lorain County Health Department as a sanitarian and became the Chief Sanitarian, retiring in 1985. He was an avid bowler, playing on two different leagues. George also enjoyed watching his children and grandchildren in their sporting events and even after they had all graduated he continued to keep up with the Wellington Dukes; he especially enjoyed watching softball.

George is survived by his children, David (Julie) Bragg of Wellington, Steven (Patricia) Bragg of Sebring, Karen (Kevin) Conley and William Bragg, both of Wellington; grandchildren, Kyle, Kory, Jennifer, Andrew, Sandra, Benjamin, and Jill and four great-grandchildren, with one on the way.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 59 years, Norma and brothers, James, John, and Charles Bragg.

Friends and family will be received Wednesday, August 13, 2014, from 2 until 4 and 6 until 8 P.M., at the Wellington First United Methodist Church, where services will be held Thursday, August 14, beginning at 11 A.M., with the Reverend Lea Mahan officiating. Burial will follow at Pittsfield East Cemetery.
