Cornelius Frederick Van Patten was born in New York in 1826. He married Mary Jane Young in about 1856. Cornelius worked all of his life as a farmer. According to the 1900 Federal Census for Alto Township, Lee County, Illinois, Cornelius and Mary Jane had 15 children, 12 of whom were still living in 1900. Cornelius died shortly after the 1900 census in 1904, preceding his wife in death.
Cornelius was 25 years younger than an older brother Simon Bartlett Van Patten 43932361. They both immigrated to Illinois from New York and left many successful descendants. Cornelius lived 78 years.
