Abbot Felix, originally a monk of the French monastery of Notre Dame de la Pierre-qui-Vire, professed monastic vows in 1865, and was ordained a Catholic priest in 1871. He came to Sacred Heart in 1877. He was the grand-nephew of French Admiral Francois Joseph Paul de Grasse , of Revolutionary War fame. Abbot Felix de Grasse also worked with Mother Katherine Drexel in establishing schools to assist and educate the Pottawatomie and Osage Native American population of Oklahoma.
