John H. Peyton Killed at Pinehurst.
Last Wednesday, Mr. J. H. Peyton, with his wife and children, left their home near Hollingsworth to visit his wife’s parents at Dooly county; They arrived at Pinehurst, a small town on the G. S. & F railroad, Thursday afternoon and drove out in the country to the home of their relative, leaving their luggage at the depot.

Saturday afternoon Mr. Peyton went back to town after the baggage. He was walking away from the depot when a man named Isaac Holton walked up behind him. Peyton hearing the man walking fast, started to turn around when he was shot there just below the ribs and fell to the ground. Holton then stepped up to his victim and emptied this pistol, three shots taking effect. Peyton died almost instantly. Holton then threw up his hands and remarked that he was “satisfied and would surrender.” He was taken to Vienna, the county seat of Dooly county, and placed in jail to await trial.

The killing was the result of an old grudge. Mr. Peyton lived near Pinehurst almost four years ago and it is reported that some remark he is supposed to have made to a member of Holton’s family at that time (4 years ago) caused the tragedy. But ____ coming up from that part of the country say it is not believed Peyton made the remark attributed to him and that the sympathy of the people is on his side and ____ opinion against the murderer.

Mr. Peyton’s relatives will employ food legal talent to assist the ____ ____ in the prosecution.

Mr. Peyton was a son of H. H. Peyton of this county, and was held in high esteem by the people in the community where hs resided.

The remains of the murdered young man, were brought to his home in Banks and interred at the Harmony cemetery Monday afternoon at four o’clock.
