William C. Knight was the son of Ellis E. Knight and Susanna (Unknown). He was born in Smith County, Tennessee, and was living there when he married Matilda Glover on 5 Nov 1845. He and Matilda were the parents of 3 children, listed below.

Matilda evidently passed away prior to 1860, when William married his 2nd wife, Alethia Elizabeth West, on 5 February of that year.

William and Alethia had 8 children, all listed below.

William served in the 28th Consolidated Confederate Infantry during the War Between the States. He was wounded in action. A note on the back of a picture of him and Alethia states that he was shot in the shoulder by a cannon in Georgia.

William was probably buried in an unmarked grave in the Boze Cemetery in Horseshoe Bend, Smith County, Tennessee. His remains, like those of his wife, Alethia, were more than likely removed to Dixon Springs Cemetery with other Horseshoe Bend removals.
