Martha was born Oct. 14, 1918, near Arena, to Andrew and Caroline (Doerr) Kraft. She grew up near Arena and had her chores of milking, tending chickens and working in the fields. She attended rural school near the farm home.
Martha was united in marriage to Ernest Krein on Oct. 15, 1937, in McClusky. They lived and farmed southwest of Goodrich. They moved into Goodrich in 1980, and to Bismarck in 1985. Her retirement years in Bismarck centered around family and friends. She especially enjoyed family gatherings where she prepared her German dishes and coffee time with her friends.
Martha was a volunteer at the state Capitol and at Medcenter One, where she greeted and helped visitors. Martha was a member of the Century Baptist Church and participated in various activities there, including quilting. She served in the Gray Haired Legislature for several years. She was a former member of the First Baptist Church, Goodrich, where she taught Sunday school for many years.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one grandson, Todd Meidinger; four brothers, Phillip, Andrew, Harold and Art; and four sisters, Alvina Schopp, Lydia Weber, Irene Fetzer and Adeline Fetzer. (Hertz Funeral Home, McClusky, and Bismarck Funeral Home)
