Mahala F. Holtsclaw married Shelby "Silas" J McVey abt 1877 (per 1880 US Census). She was not listed in the 1890 Census and Shelby was listed as widowed.

Mahala and Shelby had three children:

Laura Anna McVey 1878 – 1969
Clarence Elmer McVey 1880 – 1970
Bertha V McVey 1884 –

The children were not listed living with Shelby in 1890 or 1910 U.S. census.

Mahala died young (under 30) and is believed to be buried with her Holtsclaw family in Ashton Cemetery in an unmarked grave.
