Francis J. Cowan, 70, died Dec. 9, 1977, in a local hospital.

Born Dec. 8, 1907, Salt Lake City, to Alexander and Mary Elizabeth Gray Cowan Jr. Married Arminda Merrick Oct. 28, 1931, Salt Lake City. Worked at Walker Bank for 45 years, retired in 1972 as a vice president. Active in baseball all of his life. President, Salt Lake Jaycees, 1944-45. Graduate, Rutgers University School of Banking, 1954. Taught banking and finance at University of Utah Extension Division. Former treasurer, Utah Safety Council. Member, Community Counseling Services. Served in bishopric, Grant 8th LDS Ward, Grant Stake high council. Vice president, Utah Business Development Co. Member, Hidden Valley Country Club.

Survivors: wife, Salt Lake City; daughter, Mrs. Karl (Sue) Jensen, Tremonton, Box Elder County; son, James, Farmington; nine grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Graham (Edith) Mitchell, Whittier, Calif.; Mrs. Melvin (Vila) Jacobsen, Salt Lake City; two brothers, Lynn, Salt Lake City, Howard, Jensen, Uintah County.

Funeral services, Monday, noon, at the Grant 8th LDS Ward, 3400 S, 1100 East. Friends may call at Larkin Mortuary, 260 E. South Temple, Sunday 6-8 p.m., and Monday one hour prior to services at the ward. Burial, Salt Lake City Cemetery.
