She was born January 13, 1924 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Alexander Cowan, Jr. and Mary Elizabeth Gray Cowan. She married Melvin Louis Jacobsen on October 5, 1942 in the Salt Lake Temple. He passed away in 1973. They were the parents of four children.
In her youth, Mom attended West High School. She was later employed by Purity Biscuit Co., Salt Lake City Water Department, and for many years by Granite School District as a school secretary, working at both Taylorsville Elementary and Hunter Elementary. She retired in 1987.
Mom was an active member of the LDS Church and was always willing to serve in any capacity. Her callings included: Sunday School secretary, MIA teacher and counselor, drama leader, dance director, Primary president (3 times), Sunday School Gospel Doctrine teacher, Relief Society counselor, Stake MIA and Sunday School leader and Jordan River Temple worker.
She is survived by three of her four children: Lyn Phillips (Ken) Kaysville, UT, Ellen Meaders (Bill) Taylorsville, UT, and David Jacobsen (Peggy) West Jordan, UT. She has 18 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Preceded in death by her husband and a baby son Brent Melvin Jacobsen.
As a family we would like to express our thanks to all who have cared for and visited Mom during her illness. She has so many loving friends and neighbors and relatives. We know there were many prayers offered in her behalf. Mom was well loved because she was so loving. She was always doing nice things for others. She has been a wonderful example to us of faith, Christ-like living, and enduring to the end, and we know that she is enjoying a sweet reunion with her loved ones on the other side.
Until we meet again . . . we love you Mom.
