John "Johnnie" Halcomb was the son of David and Rosa Jane (Bohannon) Holcomb. He married Oma Burkhart on December 18, 1913, in McRoberts, Letcher County, KY. They had at least nine children: Bertie (Halcomb) Morgan, Gertie Marie (Halcomb) Polly, Minzel Halcomb, Carl Halcomb, Juanita (Halcomb) Church, Joe Thell Halcomb, Roy Lee Halcomb, Jewel Mae (Halcomb) McBee and Faith Flame (Halcomb) Branham Jones.

Two Men Killed by Passenger Train Sunday Evening

Bill Polly and his father-in-law, Mr. Johnnie Halcomb were instantly killed on last Sunday evening about 8:30 o'clock when they were hit by the L. & N. Passenger train. They were resting on the railroad track near Ermine, Ky., when the tragedy occurred.

Bill Polly was the son of Mrs. Nancy Polly of Pert Creek, he was well known and had a host of friends who were sincerely grieved to learn of the tragic death. Bill was employed by the C. D. Lynch Coal Co., of Mayking, he was also for several years a valued employee of the Elkhorn Jr. Coal Co.

He is survived by his widow, one daughter, Nancy Belle; three sons, John Edward, Donald Ray and William Jr.; one sister, Mrs. Leonard Moore, and three brothers Cullen, Ellis and Arvil.

Services were held Tuesday evening by Elds. Andrew Adams, Kirby Ison and Dewey Sexton and funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon by Elders: G. Bennett Adams, Dewey Sexton, Basil Hall and Riley Fouts. Burial in the family lot beside his father-in-law on a beautiful knoll overlooking the entire valley below. Services were arranged by the Evans Funeral Home.

Johnnie Halcomb was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. David Halcomb. He had spent almost his entire life on Pert Creek where he and his family enjoyed the friendship of a host of neighbors. Johnnie, as he was known was ever ready to go to the aid of a friend.

He is survived by his wife, five daughters, Mrs. Arthur Church, Mrs. Bennett Morgan, Mrs. Bill Polly, Jewel and Faye. Five sons, Minzel, Carr, Joe, John Jr., and Roy Lee.

Services were held at the home Tuesday evening by Elders: Andrew Adams, Kirby Ison and Dewey Sexton and Wednesday afternoon funeral services were held at the home by Elds. G. Bennett Adams, Dewey Sexton, Basil Hall and Riley Fouts. Burial in the Family Lot. Funeral arrangements by the Evans Funeral Service.
