Abraham "Abe" Slayback was born in Butler County, Ohio in 1841. His parents are still not known, though it had been speculated he might have been the son of Solomon and Elly (House). No information has yet surfaced to prove this.

Abe appears in Boone Co. KY where he married Mary Elizabeth Deer on the 16th of October 1862. Two years later he was drafted and served in the 55th KY Volunteer Infantry from Boone Co.

He is listed on Company Muster-in Descriptive Roll dated 14 Nov. 1864 at Covington, KY as a farmer, with blue eyes, light hair and complection and five foot five inches in height.

Abraham died on February 13th 1896 in Burlington, Boone Co., KY, and is laid to rest at the Burlington I.O.O.F. Cemetery, as is his wife Mary (Deer).

They were the parents of nine children. They were:Ellen Slayback Wadkins Hall, Joseph "William", Jonas, Benjamin F., Marietta "Mary" Slayback Koons, John Edward, James M., Montreville "Mont",Louis/Lewis Henry

"Abe Slayback, who has been in poor health for some time, died last Thursday. He was an old soldier, having served in the "bloody fifty-fifth," and his pension of $12 a month his only means of support for a long time previous his death.
