Coggon Monitor (Coggon, Iowa) - 6/23/1898

Louise Ellis was born at Delhi, Iowa, May 25, 1848. (Grave shows 1853 – other records show 1851. She was the daughter of Levi and Theresa Ellis.) She was married to Charles Ewing at Des Moines in 1871; moved from there to Washington, Iowa, where she resided about twelve years, then located in San Marcial, New Mexico. For the last few years good health had been deprived her. A number of skilled physicians were consulted, each arriving at the same conclusion—heart trouble. The 5th of June she decided to return to Iowa, going by way of El Paso, Texas, where she seemed better for a few days only, but on Monday became worse, expiring Monday night, June 13th, very suddenly, without a message left for dear ones.

Although never having connected herself with any church, she lived a Christian life. Many times she was heard to remark: "I know I have a Savior and am living this life to go to him." Possessed with a kind generous heart, the friendless and needy who came to her always received a helping hand. One sister resides in Pennsylvania, one in New York, and a brother in Leadville, Co. who were unable to attend the funeral. Her other two sisters, Mrs. Patton and Mrs. A. E. Sheldon, and her adopted son, Ed being present. The remains were brought to this place and the funeral services were held at the home of Jas. Patton, last Sunday at 3 p.m. conducted by Rev. West. She was buried in the Pleasant Hill cemetery.
