NEWTON L. STRICKLAND
Newton L. Strickland, 53, of 40 East Granite Street, a Navy veteran of World War I, died Saturday afternoon at the Fort Harrison Veterans' hospital after a lingering illness.
Mr. Strickland was a native of Rothville, Mo., and a resident of Butte for 30 years. He enlisted in the Navy at Great Falls, May 13, 1918, and was discharged in St. Louis, Mo., July 24, 1919.
Surviving relatives include his wife, Mrs. Grace Strickland; step-son, Frank Johns, Butte; two sisters, Mrs. Myrtle Grable, Brookfield, Mo.; Mrs. Ada Brammer, Tina, Mo.; brother, John Strickland, Brookfield, Mo., and several nieces and nephews in the east.
The remains are at Richards' Funeral Home, where Edward Mitchell will conduct services Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock. Silver Bow Post No. 1, American Legion, will conduct graveside services in Mount Morial cemetery.
