James H. Van Hoy (no evidence that his middle name is Hanmilton) was born 20 Aug 1775 - Kent County, Delaware to John Vannoy/Van Hoy,Sr.and his 2nd wife, Jemima (unknown surname). His parents were married in Kent County, Delaware. His father and step-mother, Anne Clifford were both born in Kent County, Delaware. His Grandfather and Grandmother, Abram/Abraham and Susannah Clayton Van Hoy were married in Kent County, Delaware. Susannah was born there.

James' father appeared in the 1790 census in Stokes County, North Carolina John Vanhoy 2 males over 16 - 6 males under 16 - 3 females of all ages - Total 11. He died in 1798. James' mother appears in the 1800 Stokes County census as follows: Jamima Vanoy Males - 1 under 10 - 2- 16 & under 26
Females - 1 under 10; 2 females 10 & under 16; One 45 & up.

James died 24 August 1845, NE of Town of Loogootee, in Perry Township, Martin County, Indiana. His son, Clayton W. and Mary Walker Van Hoy had migrated to Cass County, Missouri in 1841. So, when James passed away, Frances and her youngest daughter, Rebecca, went to live with her son and daughter-in-law.
